Sagano Restaurant & Bar Sydney嵯峨野

Perfect party venue – specially for the weekend!

First timers somehow always ask “Where is Sagano?”. Sagano is located on the corner of Clarence and Jamison Streets (the entrance is next to the York Hotel), just a couple of minutes walk from the convenient Wynyard Station. They have a large dining space including traditional Japanese style semi-private box seats, and also upstairs which can hold up to 40 people for a private function. They accept private functions even on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and menus can be arranged from a reasonable $20 – $60pp. Sagano has something quite rare to find in Japanese restaurants in Sydney. They have not only their regular dishes but also vegetarian and even gluten free options are available! They even make homemade Gluten Free Teriyaki Sauce using Tamari Shoyu!

Sagano is the first Japanese restaurant who's waitresses dress in “maid” costumes. This fun and cute idea was taken from “maid café” – from modern Japanese pop culture. The manager, Miwa says, “Sagano is a restaurant with good old Japanese traditions mixed with a touch of modern style”.

Sagano offers authentic Japanese cuisine (the Japanese owner-chef has over 30 years of experience!). For entrée, Age Nasu ($10.80), using homemade Miso paste is delicious. Most of their regular customers order the very tender Salt & Pepper Sqiud ($9.80) which is also recommended by Miwa. Soft Shell Crab ($15.80) served with Wasabi Mayo is another popular dish. Their Beef Tataki ($13.50) is made with beef tenderloin, and citrus sauce adds a great flavour. Of course, there is also beautiful Sushi & Sashimi made by their skilful sushi chefs, and the sizzling Beef Steak ($24.50), cooked with aromatic garlic butter and soy sauce is something that shouldn’t be missed. For a group, Spicy Miso Hot Pot ($39.90 for 2) would be ideal in winter, and the Sagano Deluxe Bento Box ($21.80 with Miso Soup) has many different dishes in one box. It's what we recommend if you are dining by yourself.
